Geek Stink Breath

Many things have been happening as of late; most of them trivial.

Yesterday I got quite fucked up. We were having Math, and the lecturer was basically a Lim Geok Lian in an alternate guise. When you have a fucktard who assumes both the roles of a teacher and a student simultaneously, you know you have to really pay attention to even get a gist of what she’s rambling about. You do not exacerbate the situation by speaking with your friends so audibly for an hour. You do not talk about breasts when the subject is fucking inequalities.

So there were these jibyes consisting of 3 girls and 1 guy, sitting directly to my left. I didn’t catch his name, but I think it starts with the letter J and sounds like what a girl would instead be christened. He is also a councilor, so most SAJC kids should know who I’m referring to at this point.

There’s a difference, see?

The third scenario was one that I had to endure for 2 terms. Not any more. I don’t care if I have to spend my free periods in the library using the computer terminals or sleeping on the couch; the preservation of my sanity takes precedence. I know many who assume that I have a happy life, being in a class of 21 girls and 3 guys. I thought so too at first, but I have been forced to change my opinions after suffering for the past 4 months. I know many who’d be willing to take my place, and I’d be absolutely elated if they did. I should probably have opted to take PCM(E) or PCM(KI). I’d then be in a class with roughly equal proportions of guys to girls. Sometimes, the golden ratio should never be tweaked. I’m keeping to myself for a while. Any more of that nonsense and I’ll have to get on a plane to Amsterdam to puff some weed.

Okay so they talked. Insignificant buggers. I tried to focus on the lecture. Then they started talking about the female body. A point to note would be that it was in fact one of the girls who opened the door to the subject in concern. This piqued my interest somewhat. I glanced over, and caught sight of the three whores. Yeech. Then the councilor tried to change the topic, but you KNOW that he’s getting more into it by the second. Fucking hypocrite. I forgot the exact contents, but the subject remained unchanged until the teacher made a major mistake in her calculations and pissed the kids off.

Budget Thrills

Got some cheap and good stuff yesterday. I went back to Camera Xchange to get a replacement for the Yashica FX-3 which I had purchased from them a day before. The meter was cranky and occasionally chose to stop functioning entirely, which warranted a trip back to the shop without further delay. Got an EOS 1000 film SLR for $48, which meant a refund of $32 since the Yashica was had at $80.

It accepts EF lenses and supports ETTL flashes, which is extremely convenient considering that it’ll be able to work with the equipment that I will be purchasing for my main body in the near future. The 1000 will be more of a novelty that I will carry around due to its ability to shoot film. Will probably mount the joke 50mm f1.8L on the film body after I get the Sigma 50mm 1.4 for the faster aperture. It’s reputed to have better reliability than Canon’s similar offering.

After that, I headed back to school and realised that I was late for a workshop on oral presentation and communication skills. It’s supposed to help us introverts become more outspoken. The overall goal was to transform everyone into capable public speakers, which would supposedly aid us during the Oral Presentation, which constitutes 40% of the Project Work grade. I didn’t really enjoy it, and considering that I could have gone with another appointment that I was admittedly much more interested in, decided to slack and wait for the three hours to be up.

6pm soon arrived. The facilitator ended the class and we were dismissed. Quite a depressing start to the new school term, if you ask me. Td Made my way down to Tanjong Pagar MRT station to purchase these little gems.

They’re the Soundmagic PL30, fully made and produced in China. I had been looking around for a pair of phones for rough use since the Audio-Technica CKM50s’ right driver chose to die on me last Saturday night, and the Sennheiser MX360s that I dug up to replace them proved to be completely unusable, by trait(or not) of exposed copper wiring near the jack. I’m not exactly the most experimental guy around, so I’ll stick to my rationale of not using stuff that might self-destruct at any moment. Paid the friendly seller $40 and departed for home to test my new purchase out.

Upon first impressions, they look cheap. No doubt about that, but they’re made for you to listen to, so that is negligible. I started putting them into my ears, and after a little trial-and-error, got them into the “sweet spot”. Started playing tracks on my Cowon D2 set to shuffle soon after. Out of the box, they already sounded slightly better than the Sennheiser CX300s, which costs roughly twice the price. The bass was not very well-defined yet, and the phones suffered from treble roll-offs similar to that of the Westone UM1s. Comfort-wise, the PL30s are good. They are rather small and will fit easily into most ears, unlike the Super-Fi 5 Pros. They also came with a bountiful supply of accessories like eartips and surprisingly, a piece of cable management rubber. The case looks quite cheap, and is indicative of a China product. Otherwise, it is quite solid and will protect most phones rather capably.

Currently burning the PL30s in now. More updates to come. Leaving for City Hall to purchase a What The Duck plush.

By the way, I have been inflicted by the common flu. Damn funny when I sneeze and look up to see strange stares aimed at me.

Another incentive(actually the only one) to enlist into the army

Mari Kita!

The SAF should really consider changing its marketing strategy. Wait, it doesn’t have one. All it needs is the letter of doom with the perforated edges. Tear the next 2 years away with the army today!

And it’ll happen once again

Today is a very good day, the claim of which is punctuated with the completion of a torrent download and the 101-96 victory of the Lakers over the Magic in Game 2 of the NBA Finals. Tomorrow will be a fucked up day, because that’s when studying comes into play, along with the shitload of work that’s accumulated in my one week absence from home. I’m trying to put together a slipshod piece of work together for GP, one that would hopefully be settled by the end of tomorrow.

Anyway, I spent the last week over at the Pre-University Seminar. Just some background information before I go on. It was organised by Innova Junior College and conducted at the Prince George’s Park Residences which is situated along the outskirts of the NUS Kent Ridge campus.

To be continued

Back in White

Back from a rather eventful stay at the NUS hostel facilities. Grouses I have aplenty, but a proper post shalt be put on hold for now. Took the train home whilst dressed in white from top to toe. SAJC tee coupled with AHS pants makes for an extremely outstanding combination.

Now for some fucking rest. The hostel rooms were fubar.

SAJC v VJC A Division Girls’ Finals and other fucked up stuff

Final score:

SAJC 1-3 VJC

I hate watching girls play soccer, everything’s so soft and unriveting. Wrestling though, is another thing altogether.

Anyway, I vaguely recall VJC first blowing ahead by 2-0, before allowing SAJC to catch up by means of a rather scrappy shot. The VJC coach acted like a dog in heat every time his side scored a goal. In a sense, the drama that unfolded along the perimeters of the pitch caught my interest more effectively than the game itself. I was joined by Daniel at this shoot, and of course we faced our own foes too, namely members of the VJC Photographic Society. I noted that some dood who resembled Guo Xian(1 of the 4 Sums in the Sec 4 AHS batch of 2008) was toting a 70-200mm f4L. Very good stuff, compared to what SAJC’s Photographic Club has to offer. I don’t care, they’d better purchase some more equipment this year.

While I’m on this topic, I should touch a little on the precariousness of my chances of securing an Exco position in the club. It’s a long story, but we have time, don’t we?

It all started out with a Ngee Ann Photography competition. Members were asked to submit 4 photos that beared some form of coherence to a few set themes. A deadline was set, and I missed it whilst in the midst of searching for acceptable photos that would even stand the remotest of chances of clinching a prize. Eventually, I found them. It was too late, however, as everyone else had already got their photos developed and adhered to mounting boards at the cost of $15 a student. I was then asked by Chris, the so-called “I/C” of competitions to get the photos printed on my own.

I headed down to Peninsula Plaza last Tuesday after school to get my shit settled. I took my business to Konota, which is supposed to be reputed for good quality prints, albeit at slightly higher fees. Printing 4 pieces of 8Rs would cost me $22. I balked at first mention of the charges as I had only $40 to last me through the week. I decided to excuse myself and give Chris a ring.

“Hey, the photos will cost $22. A mounting board from Art Friend should be $4 odd. Total comes to about $26. Should I go ahead with the procedure?”

“Yah, print la. The teacher will reimburse the full charge. Tomorrow just bring the receipt.”

Upon receiving his “reassuring words”, I decided to take the plunge.

At 3pm the next day, things started to fuck up. The teacher-in-charge intially refused to even foot a cent of the incurred charges. I attempted to iron out the situation out with her, clearly stating that it was the fucker who gave me the green light to carry out the next step. She, however, was immune to any form of reason. What had at first began as a talk was quickly degenerating into an argument. I had to stand my ground, this was $26 for fuck’s sake. Eventually, she relented and agreed to pay me $15, which was what the club had paid for each other member.

“You pass up late, is your fault! See, never print in bulk more expensive, so is your own business!”

What the fuck? You inform us of the deadline barely 8 days before, and you expect us to obtain 4 quality photos in such a short span of time? I checked with the other J1s, most of them had taken photos from their own collection, and there were some that had no meaning to them at all. Some things just cannot be rushed out.

I then told her about Chris and his wacky suggestions. She asserted that I should have checked with her instead. I called her like 20 fucking times without any answer whatsoever and she dares to throw up this kind of a refute? Screw it, I thought to myself. I’ll find ways to appropriate funds from the club in the future. I accepted the $15 reparations, and what a feeble sum it was. All this happened in the presence of Chris, who didn’t dare step up to say a fucking thing. On hindsight, it may have been a wise decision on his part. The fucker’d just be shooting himself in the foot. I’ll do the honours when I get the chance to.

I had originally planned on attaining the post of Chief Photographer. Well, I guess that’s a little far off considering the fiasco that just had to unravel itself at such an untimely occasion. No matter, I’ll quit the club if I do not get into the Exco, and join Volleyball instead. The main reason for my joining the club in the first place was to gain access to the J2 prom. I’ve realised that a DSLR slung round your neck equates to an entry pass that will get you past any lax doorman almost 100% of the time. Therefore, if all else fails, I shall crash prom and cover it on my own accord.

I could kill but I don’t care about it. Subtle maneuvers might prove to be more effective, and more importantly, clean.

Hahahahahahaha

Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS

Amazing sharpness, a true testament to the capabilities of this lens. I was extremely reluctant to part with it today. Rented it for $40 from Camera Rental, and used it to shoot at 3 seperate events in the span of 3 days. In that respect, I’d have to say that my money was well-spent. This shot was taken at Fisher Street, located behind Riverside Point. The wank pipe/vacuum cleaner was mounted on a gripped 50D which was set to aperture priority. Settings used were ISO 100, f5.6 and a shutter speed of 1/500 shot at 400mm. A reflector of a silver-colored surface was used. Marvelous bokeh, will rent this again for future sports shoots. I managed to get a shot of a hummingbird too.

Okay, I will be heading down to the License 2 Play event tomorrow(or rather, later) to whack some good deals, and to get some shots of cute promoters. See you there.
